Frequently asked questions
- What are deemed or out-of-contract rates?
- When your fixed contract ends and you don't switch or renew, your supplier often moves you onto "deemed" or "out-of-contract" rates. These default tariffs are usually much higher than the fixed rates you could get by comparing.
- How do I get off deemed rates?
- Compare and switch to a new fixed contract. Use a comparison service to see current rates for your usage and area, then switch to a new supplier or agree a new contract with your existing one. There's no need to stay on expensive default rates.
- Where do I find my current deemed rates?
- Your supplier should have sent you a letter or email when you moved to out-of-contract rates. You can also check your latest bill or the supplier's website for their standard variable or deemed rates.
