What is an MPAN? Where to Find It + Examples

Your Meter Point Administration Number explained

What is an MPAN?

An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) is the unique identifier for your electricity supply point, sometimes called "Supply Number" or "S Number". It is 21 digits, often shown in two rows (13 + 8). Suppliers use it to identify your meter and arrange the switch.

Where to find your MPAN on your bill

  • Look for "Supply Number", "MPAN" or "Meter Point ID".
  • Usually on the first or second page, near your address.
  • May be in a box: top row 13 digits, second row 8 digits.
  • Online accounts often show it on the bill or account details.

Example format

Typical format: 12 3456 7890 123 (first row) and 456 7890 12 (second). Layout varies by supplier; full number is 21 digits.

Do I need my MPAN to get quotes?

Many services can find your supply with postcode and address. Having your MPAN speeds things up, but you can often start without it. For the full process, see our guide on how to switch electricity supplier.

Next step: Compare electricity suppliers — often you only need your postcode.
